Jalaluddin Rumi has long been recognized as the greatest mystical poet of Islam. Iqbal was greatly impressed by Rumi because of Rumi’s love, understanding and respect for the Quran and Prophet. Iqbal acknowledges Rumi as a true interpreter of the Quran. In understanding and interpreting the Quran Rumi is in consonance with Iqbal. And Iqbal accepts Rumi as his guide. But Iqbal carved his own path and presented things applicable in modern days. Iqbal is straight and lucid in his writings. Thus, Iqbal comes out as original thinker who developed his thought in consonance with true foundation of Islam.
